As a result of several inquiries every year, I have had semen taken from three very good romney rams : Click on each of the sires below to take you to photos, pedigree and performance data on each of the three sires.

We of course are happy to sell semen from other sires we have or indeed from any other breed that we have ie Southdowns, South Suffolks and Lincolns.  However we would need the appropriate time for quarantine, tests and of course collection, before we could export it to you, this would take around 3 months, but if you are interested in any sires not listed below  then please do not hesitate to contact us.

1.   Tresco 148-03.  I think we have about 200 straws left of 148 for sale. I say we as Richard Brown of the Banklea Stud in Feilding New Zealand and I are selling this semen from 148, the other two romney rams below I am selling the semen of on behalf of myself alone.

2.     Waidale 350-06.  We have around 200 straws left of of 350 for sale.

3.     Waidale 5-05.   Finally we only have just over a 100 straws from 5 still  for sale.

Also attached are photos and pedigrees and performance date pertaining to each of these rams together with other relevant information.

The appropriate tests have been undertaken to comply with the current export protocols to ensure that the semen from these three rams qualify for export to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru, United Kingdom, United States and Uruguay. However please note:

1.   For Argentina we need to submit and obtain results for Johnes from serum stored post collection, which should take no more than 7 to 10 days to submit and obtain results. It is expected that such tests will be clear given they were clear pre collection.

2.   For United Kingdom we have to take a Border Disease IP test and a CFT for mycoplasmosis from serum stored post collection, it will take at least 14 days for these results to come through.

If you are from either of the above two countries we will undertake these tests when you order the semen, we do not expect there to be any issues in complying with the appropriate tests in this regard.

Of course as a purchaser of any semen you would need to arrange for an import permit from your end to bring it in.

The actual cost for semen I will discuss upon receiving the inquiry, as it will reflect the amount you may wish to purchase and whether you wish to have the exclusivity of such semen for your country alone, i.e. no one else in your country would have the right to purchase and use semen from that ram.

At present I know there is a possibility of two shipments lined up for Uruguay, one in about two weeks time, another for perhaps in June, the advantage of shipping it when other semen is going to your country is that it reduces  the  costs.   I am not aware of any shipments to other countries at present, but I am happy to make such inquiries as and when required.

If the semen is shipped direct by itself, then the following is a guide as to the export costs (in addition to the price of the semen that you pay me/us):

  1. Xcell fee (our collectors of the semen) for completion of health certificate and liaising with NZSFA approx $300 NZ; and
  2. Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries costs for Official assurance approx $300-$500 NZ; and
  3. UTI Freight approx $800 to $1000 NZ dependent on Country and size of container used (A recent shipment to the US was $998); and
  4. Liquid Nitrogen approx $120NZ; and a tank to transport semen, can be loaned and then simply cost to return it, but as often as not it maybe more cost effective to purchase a tank, approx $1500 NZ.

I hope the above provides you with all the necessary information to determine which ram you may want semen from, what amount you may want, how much you want, what is entailed to get it to you and the associated costs of getting it to you.   As stated the actual cost of the semen you will need to discuss with me further as it is dependent on the quantity you may want and the exclusivity of any such purchase.    However please feel free to seek any further information from me that you may require or ask any questions on anything I have not covered or indeed clarification on something I may have covered.
